High Water (2012)

This work was inspired in part by the March 2011 tsunami and subsequent devastation in Japan. I was interested in how people’s personal objects took on a life of their own and drifted, in some cases thousands of miles away, to other coastlines. The objects I chose for this installation were very mundane and personal at the same time, stuff that could have come out of anyone’s garage. I was interested in how relationships between objects could develop, come together in poetic couplings and then drift apart as they float randomly with the current and wind, creating interesting references and connections. Their own personal storylines took precedence above and beyond their initial lives as possessions.
